The museum would benefit from an increase in the number of volunteers to look after the engines.
Since there is now no steam, experience in steam plant is no longer necessary, but awareness of the responsibilities and precautions associated with moving machinery is essential, preferably from previous experience.
There are no newly acquired engines to strip and overhaul, but the existing ones need regular cleaning and polishing (only while stationary), and the museum building needs routine "housekeeping" to keep it up to standard.
If the prospect of being with and handling heritage steam engines excites you, then do please come along on a Wednesday, have a look around, and if you like what you see, then come and join us.
We are open from 10 am to 4 pm from Easter Monday to the end of October, every Wednesday, Bank Holiday Mondays, and the first Sunday in the month, all subject to there being sufficient volunteers available.
