the installation of safety handrails outside the flywheel and the open pit at the rear of the engine;
the addition of guides to prevent the now otherwise unrestrained pump rods from swinging;
the addition of cylinder lubrication;
the restoring/repairing and fitting of the iron platework around the two valve chests;
and starting the refurbishment and installation of the oak staving around the cylinders, which had deteriorated
during its exposure to 45 years of English weather.
